European Symposium
on Substance Use among Students

Welcome to the website of the European Symposium on Substance Use among Students. Starting in 2008 this symposium is an event which every two years brings together researchers, educators, policymakers and healthcare practitioners with an interest in the issue of substance use in student populations.

The INSERM Unit 1073, Rouen School of Medicine at the University of Rouen and the Epidemiology and Health Promotion Department of the Rouen University Hospital, in Rouen, France will host the fifth European Symposium on Substance Use and other Health Behaviour in Students, on 30th June and 1st July 2016

Substance use and other health behaviour in university students:
Translating of evidence based science in public health actions.

On the main topic on health in university students, the thematic sessions are:
  • New risk behaviours in students (gaming, internet addiction,…)
  • Burn out and mental distress: what do we know?
  • Health promotion interventions: what's working?
  • Health care utilisation and access to care
  • Methodological research challenges for the university student population (achieving more uniformity in used measurement instruments across scientific researchers; encouraging the exchange of promising research methods ; better working recruitment methods for respondents and cohorts, etc.)
  • Open session
Registration: can be completed up until 15th June. Please register via our registration form providing contact details (full name, address, institution, telephone number, email address, and status (student, academic, etc.)

Conference fee: 150 Euro, reduced conference fee for students: 70 Euro. The conference fee covers admission to all sessions, USB stick with abstracts of all presentations, refreshments during breaks and lunches on all conference days. The fee does not cover accommodation or travel costs. Gala dinner on Thursday: 40 euro.

Abstract submissions
Submission deadline: 18th May 2016
For submitting the abstract please send an e-mail containing the title, authors, institutions, full contact details of the presenting author, and the abstract as a word document attached to: Abstracts are limited to 300 words, including introduction, methods, results, and conclusion. The submitting author is automatically listed as the contact author.

Accommodation: there is a wide range of hotels and hostels in Rouen. Please contact the ESSUS organizing team for a list of accommodations for all budgets
